One of the many features that action cameras can offer nowadays is time-lapse. Some cameras (GoPro Hero, Osmo Action etc) are capable to produce time lapse video directly, while some others (Akaso v50x) are not. In that case you will have to manually create it in your desktop computer by stitching photos using an application. Lets now some tips and the right settings to create a successful timelapse using your action camera.

To create a successful time-lapse video you will have to use the proper interval. The interval is the time that passes between two shots in a time-lapse sequence and its usually a second or more. Also don't forget to set the final length of the video first.

Lets now see what interval you should use.

  • Driving: 1 second or less, if the camera allows it
  • Crowds, traffic, people: 2 seconds
  • Sunrise and sunset: 10 seconds
  • Clouds: 2-5 seconds depending from the speed of the clouds. For fast moving clouds use a slower interval.
  • Sun: 30 seconds
  • Storms: 2-5 seconds

Tip: Manual adjust your white balance settings. Do not use auto settings. Otherwise you may see the white balance to keep changing during your video.

Well that was it. You can always experiment and use your own settings. Do not forget that a time-lapse is a nice way to enrich your videos. You can use the same settings for timelapses even if you use a mirrorless camera or a DSLR.
