There are many content creators that are looking how to install Auto-tune in Audacity. But first lets see what is Autotune. Auto tune is used by singers to alter and measure their vocals pitch, bad notes etc. A user can even apply a T-pain or a robotic voice effect using Audacity and the right pitch correction plugin. Auto-tune does not officially support Audacity but you can install some third party plugins that sound similar. Some of them are even free. If you only care about the official Auto-tune application you can see here the full compatibility list. One of the most popular Autotune plugins for Audacity is Gsnap. Just by installing a simple DLL file you will be able to correct for free the pitch of vocals or create some special audio effects. Lets now how we can install it.

GSnap seems complicated at first

Installing GSnap

First of all make sure that you have Audacity installed. Next you must download the GSnap VST Pitch correction Plugin. This is the official webpage of the project where you can download the file and some other items such as the on-line manual. There are separate versions for Linux, Windows, Mac OS X for 32 and 64 bit computers. Select yours and download the compressed (.zip) file.

 GSnap DLL and Licence

  •  Now find the location on your computer were you saved the .zip file
  • Open the file using unzip or any other program. You will find two files there. The first one is the GSnap.dll and the other is a text namesd GVSTLicense

GSnap.dll was copied

  • Select and copy GSnap.dll and paste it to Audacity's plug-ins folder. In my computer Audacity is located here: C--> Programs Files (x86) --> Audacity --> Plugins. Just remember that you will need Administrator privileges to copy to this folder so click Continue.
  • Open Audacity or restart it if the program was open
  • Select - Open an audio file with Audacity if you want to edit an audio file

Add plugin from the Effect tab

  • Go to the Effect tab and select Add/Remove plugins.

 Enabling GSnap

  • There is a list there with the available plugins. Locate GSnap and enable it.
  • Now go to the Effect tab again and you will see that GSnap is activated and ready to use it.

 GSnap in action

  • If you click on it GSnap will appear. Keep in mind that the program may seem bloated at first so better read the applications manual.

That was it. Remember that Audacity and Gsnap are cross platform so you can apply this guide in every operating system including Linux and macOS.
